The vast majority of art on this account is very old. Much of it is from fandoms I'm no longer in, or stories I'm no longer working on. Some of it expresses opinions I no longer share, or uses problematic language I no longer use.

I have a mental roadblock against taking down my old art or writing for a number of reasons. The main reason is that I want to hold myself accountable for past actions, and I feel like taking my old art down because I now disagree with it equates to pretending I never did anything that I now disagree with. It feels like pretending I've never made mistakes. This is not a standard I hold other people to, but it's one that I can't seem to get past for myself.

Therefore I am making this journal entry to convey that this account does not necessarily convey my current views on subjects, and apologize for any and all harmful things I've said or posted here. I have edited the worst offenders to indicate in the work itself that I no longer agree with the content.

You can find my newer art, thoughts, and posts on my tumblr:

GAY CAVEMAN

2 min read
ANGRY: Just read a bunch of articles about the supposed discovery of a gay caveman. I have no doubt that gay cavemen existed, but the reasoning for thinking that this particular skeleton was gay ("a homosexual or a transvestite" were the only possible conclusions that these articles came to) is that the skeleton was biologically male, but buried in a way that we have only previously found females buried.

I hate to break it to these scientists, but not all cultures in history have viewed sexuality as having anything to do with gender stereotypes. Many cultures throughout history have accepted homosexual behaviors as the norm, without our culture's stigmas of "gay men are girly men" or "lesbians are butch man haters". There are plenty of cultures throughout history that accepted transgender, gender varient, and dual gendered people as existing, and respected that those things were okay.

Obviously they couldn't have sex changes at the time, but is it so fucking hard to conceive of the notion that there might have been a caveWOMAN who was born male? A trans person shouldn't NEED to undergo surgery to be considered or treated in a way that makes them feel comfortable. Are we that behind as a culture? Is it really possible that we, now, are less accepting and understanding than cavemen?

It has been so long since I had zero messages as my baseline on DA, I can't even express how weirdly freeing this is. It makes me feel like I'm not behind. This is s stupid journal and doesn't require anyone to read it or respond to it, I'm just bizarrely excited.

Also ill, which is probably why my brain is going nuts over this "accomplishment."

LINKS TO OTHER PEOPLE'S AWESOME ARTWORK (Is that attention grabbing enough for a journal header?)

I've decided to post journals when I have the time to browse the most recent page on DA, and find some things worth looking at. One of the things that disappoints me about this art site is the ease with which skilled and worthwhile artists vanish beneath the sheer bulk of less skilled or otherwise less interesting artists, so I want to give a spotlight (even if it's a relatively small one) to some of the skilled artists that I've come across by mere chance.

Today it was:

ninjote: ninjote.deviantart.com/gallery… so far has only four images uploaded, but I already love two of them:
ninjote.deviantart.com/art/Dra…
And ninjote.deviantart.com/art/Blo…

And

mayashiotani: mayashiotani.deviantart.com/ga… who does primarily photography of places that I want to be. I love looking through this gallery because it's like taking a vacation without leaving the house.
mayashiotani.deviantart.com/ar… I also love this photo.

And

kakuzu-chan12: kakuzu-chan12.deviantart.com/g… because this artist is so skilled at expressing the character's emotions.
kakuzu-chan12.deviantart.com/a…
kakuzu-chan12.deviantart.com/a…
And kakuzu-chan12.deviantart.com/a…

And

shadow-mage-evelyn: shadow-mage-evelyn.deviantart.… for their character designs, which actually grab my attention and intrigue me.
Examples:
shadow-mage-evelyn.deviantart.…
shadow-mage-evelyn.deviantart.…
And shadow-mage-evelyn.deviantart.…

And

galanix: galanix.deviantart.com/gallery…
For those who read/watch/enjoy Game of Thrones, this gallery is for you. I love the creativity this artist uses to make the different house banners out of words. Very cool!

AND
This time I had the surprise of coming across an artist I know and love from another art site on the most recent page. I don't know how long they've been on DA, but they don't seem to have posted very much compared to their art galleries elsewhere.
hobbitdragon: hobbitdragon.deviantart.com/ who's art I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys--or at least doesn't mind--looking at nude and naked (there is actually a difference!) characters in compromising positions! There's some bondage, some fantasy, some clothed people kissing, transgender characters, a centaur some uh people on a couch (yes, I just glanced at the gallery and made vague descriptions of the icons I saw there combined with my previous knowledge of their art--LOOK you should just really go look at this one if you're a cool person)... Yeah, just go check them out. They're awesome.

Today it was:

youkuwakannai: youkuwakannai.deviantart.com/g… for this artist's use of traditional media, especially paint.
Some examples of paintings by this artist that I enjoy most are:
youkuwakannai.deviantart.com/a…
youkuwakannai.deviantart.com/a…
And youkuwakannai.deviantart.com/a…

And

lintu: lintu.deviantart.com/gallery/ who does mostly cute digital drawings,
but (not surprisingly) my favorites are the creepy ones:
lintu.deviantart.com/art/Death…
And lintu.deviantart.com/art/Night…

And

ninjakato: ninjakato.deviantart.com/galle…
ninjakato.deviantart.com/art/S… the sketchdump that I came across that impressed me
ninjakato.deviantart.com/art/F… for the impressive and terrifying expression on it's face
ninjakato.deviantart.com/art/D… because when you combine bright colors like that on an animal it SHOULD look poisonous, and this one actually does. Most people throw those colors together and it looks like it belongs in My Little Pony, but this one really looks dangerous, which I think is AWESOME.
And ninjakato.deviantart.com/art/O… Because Deadpool. Do I really need more of a reason than Deadpool?

And

katewhb: katewhb.deviantart.com/gallery… whose art is definitely still improving, but specific pieces of their art really impressed me.
katewhb.deviantart.com/art/--3… Is the one I found that led me to this gallery. I love the pose and color choices, and was/am intrigued by this creature.
katewhb.deviantart.com/art/Dra… very well done expression and I like the textures on the dragon's skin.
katewhb.deviantart.com/art/He-… I don't know what it says but the image is creepy in all the right ways.
And these two katewhb.deviantart.com/art/Hey… and katewhb.deviantart.com/art/Hey… because of the creativity combined with anatomical understanding that allows a person to redesign anatomy like this.

And

hyden-fuuma: hyden-fuuma.deviantart.com/gal… for this artist's interesting and well thought out dragon concepts.
This sketchdump hyden-fuuma.deviantart.com/art… gives a good set of examples.
I was most impressed with:
hyden-fuuma.deviantart.com/art… because it's not easy making a goldfish look scary.
And hyden-fuuma.deviantart.com/art… because it's also not easy to do a "infant, child, teen, adult" compilation that really looks like those stages in a real creature's life cycle. Usually there's too much difference between the ages, or too much similarity (where the infant is basically a tiny, chubby adult, and everything in between is it getting bigger and losing the excess pounds), but this image really feels like it captures the ages to me.

And

davidbrinnen: davidbrinnen.deviantart.com/ga… who does mostly 3D art, my favorites of which are the set of Chinese dragon designs.
davidbrinnen.deviantart.com/ar… This is the one that led me to this gallery.

And

aisuruaki: aisuruaki.deviantart.com/galle… for this series of hilarious Deadpool cosplays:
aisuruaki.deviantart.com/art/d…
aisuruaki.deviantart.com/art/D…
aisuruaki.deviantart.com/art/d…
And my favorite is just him standing there (aisuruaki.deviantart.com/art/d…) because he looks like he's doing karaoke, which Deadpool should do at least twice a week, if you ask me.

And

Speaking of cosplays, this one impressed me: nanaichiigo.deviantart.com/art… by nanaichiigo
