This was an idea that's been floating around in my head for a while, but I haven't wanted to put it on paper, because my usual art style doesn't work for it. So this is an experiment that I think came out fairly well.

The characters are Kade (to the left), a scientist who has become a paranoid shut-in, and Jezz (to the right), a defective android who murdered his abusive master. Jezz ended up living with Kade, hiding from the world. Part of Kade's paranoia is because he has realized that the androids on their world have spirits and personalities just like people, so he recognizes that the way humans treat androids is equivalent to slavery, and he thinks that the androids are going to revolt and kill everyone (... THAT escalated quickly). His awareness of Jezz's personhood allowed them to bond, and then they fell in love, and all that jazz.

Kade's parents were part of a movement to use genetic manipulation and a variety of other scientific breakthroughs to create "perfect" children. Think nazis, crossed with fashion models from over-the-top fashion industries where this kind of thing is considered ideal: [link] So nazi's, except they strive for perfect beauty, rather than a specific type of appearance. From birth Kade's body wasn't treated like his own, and he had to literally run away from his parents to escape that. This resulted in him having an absolute ability to empathize with androids, who are used for their bodies, and have no rights.

Jezz's owner was a sadist who used Jezz to get his frustrations out, because it's legal to do to androids all the things it's illegal to do to people. One day he got home, and was yelling on the phone, obviously angry. Jezz got scared and pushed him down the stairs, and he died. Harming your owner isn't supposed to be possible, so Jezz was never a suspect, and it was assumed that the man tripped and fell.

Also, that makes me weirdly happy that Lex and I remind you of Jezz and Kade (or the other way around?) because I consider Jezz and Kade to be one of those rare pairings who just plain work. They are each other's other half.

I think the respect is the same in both relationships. Even if the people and events are quite different. But I haven't seen you two for a while, so I don't really know.

This is lovely and I will never not love it.

Also, I scrolled all the way to the bottom, teary-eyed, and then grinned like and idiot at Kade's fuzzy purple sock. I am also wearing fuzzy purple socks, though the are a bit more matched.

So yes. Feel-cries and sock-smiles.
